
This plaque originally was fixed to the floor in the Nave of the Medieval church, it is now attached to the South wall of the tower of the church. Some of the Clarkes were Parish Clerks over two generations over a period of approximatly 90 years.
This reads :
Here lyeth the body of John Clarke of Codnor Gent who died the fift day of August Anno 1661 Aetatis Sva 88.
He married Mary the daughter of John Kirkland of Wheatcroft by whom he had issue one daughter named Ellen who was married to Gilbert Clarke of Somersall Esquire, by whom she had issue Godfray and John both liveing and Ellen who died young.
