Heanor was once the junction between two turnpikes. As these were the only "official" roads through the town at the time a rather unusual method of direction occurred.
Heanor and district was split up into a number of "towns" each with a unique name. Some historians think that this developed from farm names and was then used in a larger context.
In the 1930's Lucy Corfield a local author then in her 70's wrote about her earliest memories of Heanor. In doing so she mentioned the names that she could remember.
These were :
Tag Hill
The City
Kingstown
Peacock Town

Nackey Row

The maps are currently awaiting updates of the lanbdmarks. We also hope to be able to provide the approximate locations of the mine tunnels under Heanor and the main location of the main buildings within Heanor's history.
